Chicken Pox

Vaccine for Varicella Zoster Virus (Chicken Pox)

If you are looking to get your child vaccinated before they catch chicken pox? Are you an adult and have not had the virus before? Or do you simply need the vaccination for your employment? Then look no further. Our vaccines are always administered by qualified medical professionals. Conveniently based in Nottingham City Centre. We are open Monday to Saturday, morning to evening so you can always find an appointment times to suit you.

This vaccine is not part of the childhood immunisation schedule. The Chicken pox vaccine is given in two doses. The doses are 6 to 8 weeks apart.

Cost: £95 per dose

How old to you have to be to have the vaccine?

The vaccine can be given to those aged 9 months and above. The vaccine is also recommended for non-immune healthcare workers and those that are coming into contact with someone who has a weakened immune system. The vaccine is not available for children under the age of 1. However, infection with the Chicken Pox virus is unlikely to occur at that age as the maternal antibodies are still in circulation.

How long does immunity last for?

Immunity is though to be lifelong. 9 out of 10 children vaccinated with a single dose will develop immunity. Two doses are therefore recommended. The vaccine is not as effective after childhood. It’s estimated that 3/4 of teenagers and adults who are vaccinated will become immune to chickenpox.

Are there any side effects to the vaccine?

Following administration of the vaccine possible side effects are: Soreness and redness at the injection site and a mild rash.

More Information:

The vaccine is a live vaccine (a weakened Varicella Zoster Virus – which causes Chicken Pox).
